Hansen’s Dairy Farm

Question: where can you go to feed calves, milk cows and pet a kangaroo or two? The answer is Hansen’s Dairy Farm, in Hudson, Iowa. This family farm is run by four brothers and has been in that family for over 150 years.

Upper Iowa’s IEP students took a trip there to experience what it’s like to live and work on a farm.

When we first got there, there was a newborn calf that had been born only hours before. It was too weak to stand up but we petted it.

After that, the cows were being milked so we saw how the process worked.

We even tried milking a cow ourselves.

Next we fed the calves, who were frisky and very hungry. They could chug 500ml of milk in only a few minutes.

We ended the tour with a visit to the farm’s mascots, a trio of kangaroos. They were docile and their fur was very soft.
